We can only hope that the same thing happens to Dutton on Saturday.

Salvo@aussie.zoneto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•What happened in Canada is the appropriate reaction to when a dictator says he wants to take over your country.English72·4 hours agoI live in a safe Australian LNP seat, the odds are that on Saturday night, our neighbours and I are (very likely) going to continue having a Right-Wing member of Parliament.
That does still mean that even though they are voting for our local MP, they are also voting for a former 1980s Queensland Cop with a suspiciously large amount of money as PM.
I would be happy if every (Australian) Coalition candidate and all the Right-Wing independent candidates received Zero votes this election, otherwise there are too many Australian Fuckwits.

Salvo@aussie.zoneto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•What happened in Canada is the appropriate reaction to when a dictator says he wants to take over your country.English90·4 hours agoI disagree. It should have been a complete landslide.
The fact that Pierre Poilievre received any votes at all suggests that almost 5 Million Canadian Voters are still fuckheads.

It will also be detrimental to the environment if you damage the sidewalls.
Even if you deliberately only puncture the centre of the tread, so the tyres may be repairable it would still be a major inconvenience for the owner but would also be illegal.
Accidentally leaving a piece of plyboard or MDF board with some 2” nails through them behind the wheels is more of a grey legal area.

I really fucking hope that the people of Dickson vote in their own interest.

I reckon that half of the Ghost Camping issue in Victoria is either ParksVic don’t want too many people at a campsite or the Bookings contractor gets paid a commission on bookings, so add fake bookings to boost KPIs.
The other half are arseholes who think that they would enjoy an empty campsite more than a campsite with other friendly people.

If they are built to handle 1500kg passenger cars, 3500kg behemoth SUVs and Pickups can really do some damage, especially at speed.
Salvo@aussie.zoneto Europe@feddit.org•New Refrigerators, Washing Machines, Furniture and Tires Will All Have to Last Longer, Europe MandatesEnglish2·9 days agoPassenger cars are getting heavier Light trucks (SUVs) are now being driven in lieu of compact station-wagons.
Vehicle classes are also getting larger and heavier. Subcompacts that used to weigh less than 1000kg are now about 1500kg and EV variants are over 2000kg!
Salvo@aussie.zoneto Europe@feddit.org•New Refrigerators, Washing Machines, Furniture and Tires Will All Have to Last Longer, Europe MandatesEnglish2·9 days agoSo is over-inflation. Always inflate to the correct pressure as per the placard. If you are driving in unusual conditions,
My little Jimny weighs bugger-all but needs Light Truck tyres. On-road pressure is a very light 26 PSI. If I am driving through Sand, Mud or Snow I will deflate to an appropriate pressure and drive slowly. If I am driving over rocky terrain, I will also deflate to an appropriate pressure for better adhesion.
As soon as I hit the Tarmac again, I will reinflate back to 26. If I am carrying more weight or towing, I will inflate the rear tyres to 29.
Salvo@aussie.zoneto Europe@feddit.org•New Refrigerators, Washing Machines, Furniture and Tires Will All Have to Last Longer, Europe MandatesEnglish324·10 days agoThe three biggest things that kill a tyre are;
- shitty roads
- aggressive driving
- heavy vehicles (like EVs and oversized SUVs)
That said, cheaper tyres are typically made of cheaper compounds that age poorly.

For modern commercial journalism, being called out on MediaWatch is a promotional opportunity! “Look how much we can corrupt reality, advertise with us”.
Salvo@aussie.zoneto Australia@aussie.zone•Queensland council races to reverse mayor's EV charger halt, with funding on the lineEnglish5·11 days agoCommercial “Journalist” needs to be held to a higher standard.
They should voluntarily do a retraction article of the same duration in the same time slot explaining exactly how they screwed up and how they will restore their integrity in the future.
If they don’t, the industry regulator needs to call them out on it.
The boxy style actually leads to more pedestrian injuries due to reduced visibility and sharp angles.
The best design is a gentle slope. That is why most modern cars have a gentle grille angle, sensors in the front bar and pyrotechnic actuators in the bonnet hinges.
They loosen and push the back of the of the bonnet up so that when the victims head hits the bonnet, there is some give and they are less likely to receive debilitating head injuries.
Still, there is no substitute for driving more slowly and paying attention to your surroundings.
My number two rule of the road is to assume that every person on the road as complete idiot and is going to make mistakes, including yourself.
I had a black mica Barina that never showed dirt. The mica in the paint had just the right amount of reflectivity that any additional dirt or dust just looked like more mica.

Salvo@aussie.zoneto Australian Politics@aussie.zone•Tariffs on 'incredibly important' ally Australia branded 'insulting' in fiery US Senate hearingEnglish2·13 days agoThere was a political parody comedy radio series in the 80s called “How Green was my Cactus”.
I remember a negotiation between “King Bonza” (Bob Hawke) and a simulacrum of Reagan discussing letting Australia win the Americas Cup yacht race.
KB “Let us win or we’ll force you to tell us what’s at Pine Gap”. R “you will need to force us to tell you where it is first” KB “Then we will send Don Lane home” R “no! Anything but that! OK, you win”
I was thinking about that, but that would require Me getting back on Twitter and riling the Orange Clown up about his Australian puppets.
I’m not willing to jump on that grenade because I no longe have a Twitter account and I don’t want anything to do with him.
