  • I am indeed in the food porn community and generally enjoy it. I said something negative about something as stupid as mass-produced meatballs in consumer market that doesn’t even operate as a restaurant. There’s virtually no difference between this and posting a picture of a crunchwrap. Hit me up with your sous videes and your pan sauces and your other things that you actually do that are impressive. Not your shopping trips.

  • I can sympathize with this like no other. I agreed to cover for my cousin’s it business for a couple weeks and he just handed me the “business phone” without telling me that his clients expected to be able to call 24/7. Well I never signed up for 24/7 anything… Sometimes I’ll take a look around lunch time and see that somebody called four times and left an angry voice message.

  • Check how much of that stuff is actually needed to physically back up. Odds are it’s on the cloud already. I got a house calls for this kind of thing a few times a day and almost always the answer is "your Apple/Google/Microsoft storage has all your pictures and videos already.

I get people that ask me about setting up network storage arrays pretty often, but almost none of them want to go through with it.

I don’t know what your time is worth, and I would still set something up just because I felt like it or was curious, but almost nobody needs a home network storage system. Just figure out what people need to sync, set it up, and plug a hard drive into your router. Odds are once you try to figure out what they are trying to sink, you’ll realize that it already has automatically synced to their cloud storage.

If you really want to do it as a project and are near Maryland, I will give you some closed box Network storage arrays from 2012 with hundreds of terabytes between them in unused fiber optic hard drives.

  • Normally you don’t include yourself when asking questions of people who are actually knowledgeable. I was making fun of you saying ‘we’ and following up by directly saying you aren’t part of ‘we’.

My point stands. You could make any Linux kernel that you wanted to. Your question isn’t ‘why haven’t we done something’ but ‘why hasn’t somebody done something for me that I probably don’t even really want?’
