HeyJoe@lemmy.worldto science@lemmy.world•Middle-aged Americans are lonelier than older adultsEnglish4·17 hours agoI absolutely agree. Although my parents weren’t that well off, they made it work with the little they had and gave me the best that they could. It included a lot of what you stated, just not the golf clubs or boats. We did a lot and I made a lot of friends through the years and it was very fun. I even had a blast when I got out of school and found some financial freedom to do a lot for a bit. As I got older things started getting tighter and at this point I feel the same as you do. I can’t afford anything and I’m stuck where I am. I feel bad since I have 2 kids and feel like I do them a disservice not being able to give them what I had.
Really? Not a single one has ever had anything interesting?
HeyJoe@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Have you ever been to Burning Man or a similar festival type event? Any cool stories?3·2 days agoNever been to burning man but I would have loved to have tried it. I did go to Bonnaroo for 4 years straight and 6 years total. Almost a 7th but the fest was legit cancelled an hour before we were going to start driving. And yeah so many amazing stories to count. The first year going holds a special place in my heart since it opened me up to a whole new world. I went with friends who knew other friends. Campsite was about a dozen of us and made new friends for life after that. It’s overload being able to not only have some of the best moments ever, but also see some of your favorite bands where some will do something you may never see elsewhere. Wish I could do this again someday, but I do think we are all done at this point sadly. I did say when we get really old like late 50’s we should go back in style. We ran into several older groups of people that had hilarious stories to tell and I kind of want to be them haha.
As someone with kids, they ruined my not sleeping time. I used to stay up because it was the only time to myself and crash around 2am. Now I’m lucky if I can keep my eyes open past midnight… I also can’t sleep in anymore either. My wife leaves around 6am to work and I am basically up. Kids out the door at 7:15 so not much time between anyway. It sucks because i wanna sleep in on Saturday and Sunday still but it’s ingrained into me at this point so I am up at like 7am tops… on the flip side I have learned to just do all the things I wanted to at 11pm at 7am instead!
Wowww i just assumed she was 50. That sucks for her… maybe don’t do expensive surgeries that make you look extremely worse than you probably were.
I would love to hear the insulting memorial speech he gives her. Throw a few jokes in there, insult her family, laugh about how it’s good it wasn’t him. You know the norm.

HeyJoe@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•There is suffering everywhere you look, says mother of emaciated baby girl trapped in GazaEnglish27·4 days agoI had a really hard time raising my children. Infant and baby years were really hard, and everything was normal living situation. I couldn’t imagine doing what they are doing now to keep a baby alive in those conditions. What an awful way to live life…

The paid leave comes from the state that added onto this. It was 4 weeks’ pay from the state. She was allowed 6 in total. After that was up, it was up to the school district to allow her the rest of the time off. The time off allowed came from her accrued sick time and vacation over the years. She still needed the request approved by the board since it was a lot of time. 2 and a half of those months were also summer, which she is off for anyway.
It’s not better. It’s just another way to market it. I am not really a fan of edibles and having it in a drink is even worse to me since I dont see the need to drink an entire can when I can get the entire dose in 2 bites with a gummy. I used to take them for a while, but I realized I hate the drowsiness that comes with them the next morning. I was also taking 50mg, which may be a lot for some?
Thabk you! It was Frontline! I just went and looked. I guess I never played the original.
HeyJoe@lemmy.worldtoEducation@lemmy.world•We’re at the beginning of a harsh new era for college students11·4 days agoI know a lot of people can’t, but I wish we would all stop going and find alternative routes for our careers. Again, I know that’s not possible for some, but I really wish we started moving away from colleges. They took advantage of us, we pay tons and go into crippling debt before our life begins, and now the people handing out the loans want to make us suffer more with harder payments and probablyhigher interest rates? Just don’t go! Once the money is gone, maybe then they will realize what they caused or, better yet, just collapse entirely. Don’t let them make you suffer. I did the alternative route for 1 year and was able to get into my field just fine. I am sad I missed the experience, but I am very happy to have paid off all my loans for schooling within the same year of getting out.
Wasn’t this the one that started with D day and storming the beach? I remember being blown away by how good it looked, which I’m sure would not be the case today!
That’s interesting. I knew it caused appetite suppression, but i didn’t realize it dulls other areas as well.
I think the point of doing this first is not about getting fame, but to be ready for it. Once you are famous someone can claim the domain you wanted and hold it hostage so by doing this you don’t have to deal with that later on.
HeyJoe@lemmy.worldto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•14 nurses at the same hospital are pregnant at the same time174·5 days agoThat may be federal, but some states (and i do mean some) have something called FMLA provided by the state. The one I am in guaranteed you 8 weeks and I believe it was just raised to 12 weeks. Granted it’s not great because it’s a lot of paperwork, you don’t get paid right away, you won’t make what you did if you were working, and not all the weeks are payable! But you are allowed this if you want it and your job can’t fire you. If your job is good enough, which normally they are, you can combine the state time off with your jobs time off to add on an extra month or 2. My wife’s a teacher so she did this and used all the sick time and vacation time she had saved over the years to take an extra few months on top of FMLA so she was able to have our kid in December and take the rest of the school year off from January to June then get summer break and return in sept. So still not a year, but 9 months wasn’t bad either. I on the other hand got 2 weeks and our 2nd kid I took 3 weeks of vacation. Sadly everyone’s experience is different and you won’t know what you will have because it’s up to the state and job which is stressful on its own. Most places from what I have seen with friends are not trying to screw you, but I would say the average I’ve seen people take is 1 month.
Edit: so I just looked and since it’s been a few years since I have last needed it i haven’t followed it. Looks like FMLA has spread to more states and looks like about 12 (mostly blue states of course) now have this at the state level. https://onpay.com/insights/paid-family-leave-by-state/
They probably mean 30 min worth of prep. The oven part is hands off and whatever to them.
HeyJoe@lemmy.worldto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•You might want to hose it off when you are done19·6 days agoIt’s to spray your neighbor when he decides to pick the urinal right next to yours when there were 3 others not next to you. Then it just turns into a silly water fight, and everyone has a blast.
Of course, the people were so excited for the return of king trump that they dialed it back a bit to witness his return. It’s the only reason they didn’t OD, the only reason.
