PurchaseWithPurpose@lemmy.world•What's the scope of this website? Can we talk about media companies and also boycotting Paramount, Skydance and CBS?English
2·3 days agoParamount, Skydance and CBS are owned by Dave Eillison. I believe it’s now one company called “Paramount Skydance Corporation”.
I also found this: https://www.thomasnet.com/insights/larry-ellison-companies/

18·3 days agoI really wish there was a way to start a mass migration of all the non-bots from Reddit to Lemmy.
GrapheneOS also has an official Bluesky account. Here’s a link to the same post except you don’t need to visit that nazi-bar website and don’t need to login: https://bsky.app/profile/grapheneos.org/post/3m6fm6vseik27
I got the solution for the X link:
Use a Tweet viewer and you won’t need to login. Visiting Twitter directly helps support Elon Musk with ads and tracking.
Just replace x.com with xcancel.com, nitter.net or nitter.poast.org.
Therefore the link would become: https://nitter.net/netflix/status/2002243701436039325

15·2 days agoSomeone just before you left a comment saying "[The best] Time to get off Twitter [was] when a Nazi bought it.
The second-best time is now.". (source: https://lemmy.zip/post/55517537/23499919)
I agree 100% with that comment. If someone leaves late yes we wish they would have left sooner but we can’t go back in time and change that so we must just be happy that they finally left.

3·3 days agoI agree that Bluesky isn’t a “big tech platform”, it’s not as big as I wish it were but I do think currently it’s the largest competitor that’s at-least mostly ethical or far better than the big tech platforms. They recently hit a 41 million user milestone. How can platforms can you name with greater than that many users that is not part of what is commonly considered to be “big tech” (Meta, Google, Twitter, Snapchat, and TikTok)?

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Twitter/X's TOS includes broad AI training rights. Time to get off Twitter now!English
21·3 days agoTwitter is more egregious than even other big tech platforms and there are major competitors that don’t have these AI training terms of services like Bluesky.
Also some people are just slow to change or don’t get the news so we have to try everything we can.

7·3 days agoYou miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. If even a tiny amount of people leave because of this it’s a win! Think about it like chipping away at a stone with a chisel and discarding the fragments. If you keep doing it enough one day the stone will be gone.

10·3 days agoEveryone needs to boycott all companies owned by the Ellisons. Put maximum pressure on CBS News not to go down the same path as North Korea, China, Russia, Hungary’s news or not to become yet another Fox News. Call their advertisers and demand they pull their ads until we get guarantees that CBS won’t become even more of a propaganda channel or force different ownership.

401·3 days agoIf the US gets even worse (yes there is no bottom things can get even worse) this will create a big refugee problem throughout the world as people flee. It will not be good for your country and it will not be good for mine. So I urge everyone to stand up today to the Trump regime instead of dealing with a big problem tomorrow. You have the power to make a difference just by doing simple things like boycotting Tesla and Twitter. Urge people who are buying an EV not to buy a Tesla and urge everyone you can to stop using Twitter. Switch to Bluesky!

294·5 days agoI tried improving it by updating the title and description. Even looking at the corrected image we still see disruptions in posting on that day and OP asked a question: why did they both happen to stop on that day despite having such regular posting habits?

I strongly oppose this and think it’s a bad idea because then you’ll be like Ukraine and your neighbors like Russia. Instead we must win big in all 50 states. Otherwise you’ll screw over tens if not hundreds of millions of people who will be forced to live in a a far-right extremist country. Let’s instead take back our country in all 50 states.
Another reason why this is a bad idea is because blue states send a lot of good Democrats to congress. Taking that away means certain Republican domination in congress.
