Backwards. Shia are the majority. Power was mostly in sunni hands specifically because Saddam wanted to stamp out Iranian influence.

Aqarius@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•G7 leaders: ‘Iran can never have a nuclear weapon’English3·22 hours agoWell, it didn’t exactly help that something like half of the most significant nuclear physicists of the era were, uh… yknow… disinvited from the country.
Aqarius@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•G7 leaders: ‘Iran can never have a nuclear weapon’English10·22 hours agoWas the Soviet Union a victim when Germany attacked them?
…Really? That’s the comparison you’re gonna go with?
Aqarius@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•G7 leaders: ‘Iran can never have a nuclear weapon’English6·23 hours agoHell, even if you don’t. Gaddafi made a big show of “giving up” weapons that he didn’t even really have, and he still got raped to death with a bayonet.

Aqarius@lemmy.worldto Europe@feddit.org•Europe's zombie armies. Or how to spend $3.1 trillion and have precious little to show for it.English6·8 days agoI’d wager (heh) Tooze is familiar with armament production. Germany still built something like 4k Leo 2s. Add to that about 1k of Leclercs, half that of Challengers, some Ariettes, and a bunch of other crap, there’s room for an economy of scale, it’s just not being used. And frankly, EU armies buying M1s isn’t helping. In addition, you can put the proposition backwards, and say high unit costs are a sign of too few of them being built.
I’m wondering if he’s maybe comparing older models. An M1A2 can come from anywhere between early nineties and today - L2A8s are brand spanking new. But even then, the PzH 2000 being six times more expensive then the K9 is just insane.
Aqarius@lemmy.worldto People Twitter@sh.itjust.works•In the end, The Hill lied and Harris was right.1·8 days agoMisinfo? I’m talking about opinion pieces. “Israel has a right to defend itself” isn’t strictly misinfo, but it is, arguably, an opinion. And you’re correct. They’re not only used for opinion laundering - they also appear to be a sort of make-work program.
And I don’t know what conversation your tangent on what you’re reminded of comes from, but it’s not the one we’re having.
Aqarius@lemmy.worldto People Twitter@sh.itjust.works•In the end, The Hill lied and Harris was right.16·9 days agoYou should. Arguably, you should nail the to the cross for opinion pieces more, because opinion pieces exist to launder articles that the paper can’t reasonably justify publishing… but still really wants to publish.

It’s just a fun adventure movie. The reason the RPG crowd sing it praises is that in addition, if you know how to read it, the actual plot is “girlfriend is curious about what we’re all doing every Tuesday evening”

Because the fatwa declares: “Israel has a right to defend itself”. Denying it is haram, and infidels must be punished.
At a certain point, it stops being about enforcing the fatwa, and becomes about defending your right to declare fatwas.
