Most people don’t need to tow a boat, and those that do only need to do so a minority of the time.

People should have the option to bike to where they need to. Instead everything is basically designed around cars being the only valid form of transportation.

Not to mention that you don’t need a massive obnoxious truck to tow a boat, which the previous commenter most likely also thinks.

You don’t need a truck to tow a boat either, especially not a big one. Probably nearly any motor vehicle could tow the majority of boats that are being towed, not that most people who own a truck are toeing boats and not that boats are being towed often anyway. Just rent something the one day a year you take the boat out if you need to. It’ll save you money in the end.

Any medium sized boat with the ability to go fast is going to be about 5500-6500 at the bottom end. You might get one of those with an ultra light trailer but not much more. There are plenty of popular boats that you need a 3/4 ton for.

When our species develops a philosophy without the need for accumulation of wealth, a inflatable kayak will do and can be easily transported by biclycle.

The VQ40DE engine they put in the 2005-2019 models is a great engine. The RE5R05A transmission is solid as well. If you get one make sure it’s either past 2008 I think or the radiator has been replaced. The stock radiators had a flaw where it would make strawberry milk by mixing your coolant and transmission fluid usually around 100k miles.

The Gen 3 tundras have the coolant to trans fluid heat exchanger on the right side of the tranny where the thermostat for the tranny fluid is located. Keep that in Mind.

I have a 2013. It gets shit gas mileage but I’ve never had any problems other than normal consumable parts.

I do wish they’d bring back the small trucks that we had in the 80s

Small trucks are the worst IMO. Yeah they are better mpg but have shit towing and ain’t much better than my Outback with carrying anything large.

Sure I’m sure there are some use cases but the half ton is just a more usable form factor without being that much worse on mpg or cost.
