New Convoy: S6 pocket “thrower” with 18350 titanium tube and Osram flat white CSLNM1 LED.
The extra few mm compared to an s2+ provides a longer reflector. The hotspot is a bit more concentrated than the smaller Lumintop fw1aa with the same emitter.
With the default 5 amp linear driver configured to group 8, 50% gets pretty hot after a minute or two. 35% in a different group might be more sustainable.
Overall I like this combination of aesthetics and functionality.
Also picked up the convoy AAA light which is surprisingly nice: stainless steel, 50 claimed lumens and a twisty which is tightly screwed in both the “on” and “off” positions, reducing the chance of accidental disassembly.
Nice setup. I’ve always felt the S6 was classy and criminally underrated. I didn’t even know the 18350 Ti tubes dropped!
Agreed on the look even after a few scuffs since that picture. It was the least expensive way to try out titanium as well. Will probably end up with a full S2+ one of these days! Tons of choices for Convoy right now.
I heard about the S6 on one of the other sites (this thread I believe) and this emitter/host combination went on sale a month or so ago which led me to try it out.
That deeper textured reflector is really nice. Clean beam and smooth transition but plenty of throw. If you don’t mind the narrower field of view, it’s quite a versatile beam for near and far.
I just put one together like yours but with 519a and the new buck driver!
Cool build! The TI tube is a nice touch.
I have the same setup in an S2 and like it a lot.
Will that s2 be getting the 5 amp buck driver upgrade? (Edit: just saw it will become an 8amp sft40!)
That was my plan for this light too if I can manage it. I guess the buck driver would create less heat at the same output which would be more valuable to me in this case than the additional runtime.
Yeah I’m also more interested in the heat management. We’ll see if 8 amps is too much even with the buck driver. I was originally planning on the 5A with this emitter but, as much as I like it, I don’t find myself using it very often.
How is the beam quality with the S6 and CSLNM1? Is it a smooth or OP reflector? My S2+ with this emitter wasn’t horrible, but the focus and centering wasn’t amazing. I put in a spare OP reflector from a Sofirn SC31B and it was a lot better.
It comes with a smooth reflector and I think the centering came out pretty well on this one. The hotspot is circular with a few artifacts.
Outside it works well as a fairly narrow beam, the hotspot is a bit larger than a thrunite catapult mini v1 (with much more spill).
