Generated Image Explainer:

This image is a politically charged meme featuring President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris smiling and giving each other a high five. Overlaid on the image is a provocative caption that reads:

  • “DEMOCRATS DO NOT EXIST TO STOP REPUBLICANS. THEY EXIST TO STOP LEFTIST MOVEMENTS FROM GAINING POWER OR POLITICAL ACCESS FOR CHANGE.”

Analysis:

  1. Visual Content: Biden and Harris are sharing a seemingly friendly and celebratory moment.
  2. Textual Message: The meme delivers a critical opinion of the Democratic Party, suggesting that its role is not to combat the Republican Party, but rather to prevent more leftist or progressive movements from gaining influence or implementing transformative change.
  3. Political Commentary: This message is a common critique from some segments of the political left who view mainstream Democrats as part of the political establishment that maintains the status quo, and as obstacles to more radical or systemic change (e.g., Medicare for All, Green New Deal, police reform, etc.).
  4. Framing: By juxtaposing a cheerful image of Democratic leaders with a harsh critique, the meme aims to highlight perceived hypocrisy or misplaced trust in centrist politics.

Context:

This kind of content is typical in political discourse on social media, particularly from more progressive or socialist corners. It reflects frustration with what some see as the Democratic Party’s failure to advocate for more aggressive reform or to break significantly from corporate or neoliberal interests.

In context they are talking about how the current Republican party’s dysfunctional nature makes governing impossible. I also think Pelosi and Biden think (perhaps correctly) that any population will have a certain amount of the population that are small “c” conservative and should be represented.

The current republican party has been the current republican party since at least the 90s. I would think these ghouls would know that, but I guess they’re too steeped in the slimy political machine to notice.

I am curious what “small ‘c’ conservative” means in this context and why they would ever be more inclined to vote for democrats over republicans regardless. Democrats don’t seem to be getting this mythical segment no matter what they do, but they insist on catering to them almost exclusively.

By small “c” conservative I mean people who are wary of change and value hierarchy and tradition. That is why the logic used to be that people got more conservative the older they got. That’s not true anymore not because people have changed but because the tenets of conservatism changed.

Democrats have been catering mostly to them for decades. How has that been working out for them?

I think it doesn’t matter much either way. What matters is the Right’s capture of the media and the religious. The Left hasn’t figured out how to overcome that
