For Technocracy, schemes like a universal basic income simply postpone the inevitable day of reckoning for the price system.

The TLDR of their system was everyone worked the same low hours and got equal, non tradeable/stealable pay (other than merchants).

UBI + price system is far better. Work all you want, at higher skill/demand work for higher pay, to get cooler stuff. UBI still promotes abundance because we can all afford things more easily, and it is easier to find a job if you don’t have to compete with the desperate, and you get 5 recruiters per day calling you.

UBI lets you be in charge of solving your problems yourself, including paying others to help you, but less stress helps. Central planning on the ideal consumption level simply can’t be appealing, and it includes a demotivating aspect to acquiring needed skills, if you can be paid to play video games while keeping an eye on if the robots break, and then call someone skilled to repair them.
