I get being disappointed in her (and personally I dislike her for being a Zionist), but I can also understand. Anything she does in terms of like malicious compliance is going to reflect on every trans person. There’s also conservative congresswomen who I would not even want to use the same bathroom with, because they would absolutely go out and be like, “I felt threatened,” or whatever. Every one of these people has a national platform and is extremely malicious.

I would be tempted in her position to hang out in the men’s room doing femme things to make everyone uncomfortable. But I can’t really expect her to be comfortable doing that. I hope she understands that they are going to keep pushing, and is just picking her battles and waiting for the right optics to take a stand, though I don’t expect that’s the case at all.

She should just defecate on her political opponents’ desks. I mean, nothing happened to the criminal trespasser who illegally entered the building in Jan 6th 2021, right?

There was no immediate reaction from most House Democrats, including leadership

Pathetic, and frankly her going along with it is not much better.

    Just disappointed

Completely agree the silence of most House Democrats is shameful, but as for McBride, she isn’t giving them the reaction they wanted. This was intended to target her specifically and create a situation where they could point at her response and go “see, the radical transgender has infiltrated government and now he’s trying to invade the women’s restroom!!1!!!1!!11” Using her response to pivot to economic issues and call them out for trying to distract from the same takes some of the wind out of their sails. It would be different if this legislation wasn’t so blatantly targeted.

They’ll still try, but it will be harder for them to play the victim here.

The right to exist is worth fighting over and people should be pissed at her for surrendering on our behalf. Access to bathrooms is fucking important and her statement even manages to make that sound trivial.

All the 4d chess political maneuvers are a poor excuse, I remain disappointed.

Conversely, taking a stance on that single issue would rule her out of doing any other aspect of her job. You’re right, it’s important, but more can be achieved by going along with it. If anything, these transphobic fucks might get a reality check when they realise they’re sharing a bathroom with a fucking woman.

You’re right of course, but there’s a certain segment of the party that’s addicted to Losing With Dignity, and is afraid to fight for anything. They’ll go as far as to coach you on how brilliant it is to willingly give up your rights and retreat from public existence.

That definitely happens a lot with Democratic politicians, but I don’t think that’s what happened here. Because this is specifically targeted at the Capitol and House office buildings and will likely only affect McBride, backing down here is a purely symbolic retreat. It’s not like she’s backing down from fighting for trans rights as a whole (at least, I don’t expect that she will).

The “normal” that I want to see are single unit, gender-neurtal bathrooms without the massive gaps between panels. If something like this happens quickly, then that cancels out all of the other bathroom bills while benefitting everyone, cis and trans.

I hate this. It’s fucking deplorable. Let her pee wherever she feels comfortable peeing.

I mean he’s as valuable as an outhouse. So pissing all over Mike is a proper gender neutral bathroom

Makes me think McBride and supporters can afford to install luxury porta-potties very close to the places where she and the other representatives work. Sort of a malicious compliance by adding more gender neutral restrooms in response to the change.

Bigots and Nazis arent Elementary School Bullies. These far-right lunatics are driven by a want to eradicate a minority from society, not a want for attention. You can’t just choose to not give racists attention hoping that they will become less racist.

Ignore them, give them what they want and they will ask you for more. They will gladly compromise with you… before immediately moving the goalposts.
